I don't want a half dozen Cheyenne Palisades' running around in world. And then I got really upset. I don't sell anything (anymore) so I need not worry about someone selling goods out from under me, but I spent a LOT of time trying to get this name -- poking and poking until Eaton came up. I don't need or want someone else to one day decide he'll be me for a while. (Honestly, I'm not that interesting to begin with.)

I'll re-read the FAQ but I didn't see anything in there about how someone using 1.23 will be able to see a person's actual identity. All of the examples show V2... which will be coded to show those extra fields. (Again, I need to re-check that).

Another issue I thought of beyond locking doors and other similar scrips is what will happen to in-world games that utilize previously unique display names (Bloodlines and Tiny Empires come to mind.) Those games were written with the assumption that our displayed names would be unique and immutable. So much for that.

Gah. Here's the takeaway message I get from all of this: "We want you to use Viewer 2." Yes, the code will be available to third-party devs, but integration of this stuff will take time and it's not as if this feature can be easily ignored the way Shared Media and Wardrobe features currently are. Life in-world is going to get really messed up for a few months.Whatcha Eatonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5780662684766869666.post-20035060406897339292010-08-19T14:41:55.342-04:002010-08-19T14:41:55.342-04:00"Philip Linden""Philip Linden"Solo Morningtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13712475103883173026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5780662684766869666.post-52043240125377279132010-08-19T13:42:55.001-04:002010-08-19T13:42:55.001-04:00Chey...I found your blog via Alex's "humm...Chey...I found your blog via Alex's "humming bird debacle", so funny that.

DISPLAY NAMES...
What the heck is "The Benevolent Monarchy" possibly thinking?

With all that's broken in Secondlife we need this!?
First, second, or third look... it appears there's more than Kool Aid being drunk (or smoked).

I see no good come of this.Brindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01722102008502506117noreply@blogger.com
